Escrever para resistir: a relação entre linguagem e poder no filme Narradores de Javé (2003)

Abstract

This paper addresses the relationship between language and power in film works, observing how diatopic variation manifests in regional literature, and how cinema can function as a tool for visual education with sociolinguistic potential. It aims to analyze the relationship between language and power in the face of linguistic variation in the speech of characters in the film Narradores de Javé (2003), by Eliane Caffé. The work reveals a strong relationship between orality and writing as a way to legitimize knowledge. The undertaking of this research is justified by the conflict surrounding the importance given to the only resident of Javé who knows how to write. For the construction of the theoretical framework of this study, we considered Bagno (1999), Bortoni-Ricardo (2004), and Urbano (2011), among others. This is a qualitative, documentary, and descriptive research. The relevance of this study lies in its potential to contribute to the work of Portuguese language teachers, especially for those seeking to teach linguistic variation using cinema and literary texts.
