Discurso, silêncio e ideologia: os sentidos de superação da crise no portal de notícias g1 (Globo)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse on overcoming the crisis present in the headlines of journalistic articles published on Globo's digital news platform, g1, during the year 2021. To this end, we align ourselves with Materialist Discourse Analysis, which was founded in France (1960) through the theoretical studies of philosopher Michel Pêcheux and gained popularity in Brazil through the translations by linguist Eni Orlandi. We selected three article headlines that highlight ways of overcoming the crisis as the corpus for our analysis and, whenever necessary, used excerpts from the articles to contextualize the discursive material in focus. We understand the crisis as a structural movement of the capitalist system, as pointed out by Mészáros (2011), and turn our attention to its reverberations in pandemic-stricken Brazil. From our analysis, we highlight discourses tied to the defense of capital, noting the development of new forms of domination, such as the uberization of labor, the polarization of the far-right, particularly in Brazil, and the silence surrounding the devastating outcomes of the terrible health crisis, which, in line with all the ills of capitalism, claimed thousands of lives worldwide, especially among the working class.
