"A soja esmaga": reverberações do plantationoceno no conto "Má sorte", de Paulliny Tort

Abstract

Due to the urgencies of our time, new theoretical categories arise to handle a collapsed world. Crutzen and Stoermer (2000) call it anthropocene: human activity becomes a geological force. However, alternative proposals come up, as the plantationocene thought by Donna Haraway and Anna Tsing (2016): coloniality as a structuring mean of a system that drive us to the collapse of nature. The aim of this paper is to mobilize these theoretical discussions as reading keys to analyze the short story “Bad luck”, by the Brazilian writer Paulliny Tort (2021). In the short story, categories such as space, character, and plot reverberate a reality that is crossed by plantationocene structures: exploitation of humans and non-humans in a colonial mode of inhabiting Earth (FERDINAND. 2022). To do so, first I discuss the concept of plantetionocene based on Haraway and Tsing (2016) and Ferdinand (2022) to analyze the short story in the sequence.
