Punk Medallo and the construction of other worlds

Abstract

Although punk is a polysemic term, in the various geographies where it has taken root it has led to the formation of social and political actions that go beyond its aesthetic dimensions, becoming true alternative ways of life. These, always divergent from the mentality and hegemonic social and political practices characteristic of the modern-colonial world-system, have represented spaces of resistance to various forms of systemic violence, as well as places where distinct individuals can come together, united by shared concerns and a common desire to build other possible worlds. In this article, I propose an exploration of how these spaces have been configured within punk in Medellín, Colombia (Punk Medallo), and what they represent for the persistence of a counter-hegemonic resistance that endures among these city dwellers.
