No archive will restore us. From the haunted archive to the embodied archive in contemporary performance practices

Resumen

In this paper, I examine how hauntological practices and haunting methodologies serve as generative and performative tools for rethinking the relationships between archives, memory, collective heritage and performance. Grounded in interdisciplinary perspectives—especially from Performance Studies, Sound Studies, Vocal Studies and Philosophy—I approach the topic from the standpoint of a Southern European performance artist and artistic researcher. My work as a precarious worker within the arts and cultural sector informs the theoretical inquiry, drawing attention to the marginalization and the silencing of certain voices, of the stories of places where archives often fail to survive—because there are no victorsʼ narratives to tell them—but
ghosts certainly do.

Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, Universidade IUAV de Veneza

Independent artist and researcher who works in the fields of performing arts and sound art. He obtained a Degree in Philosophy at the University of Turin, a masterʼs degree in Theater and Performing Arts at the IUAV University of Venice, and a certificate for the Higher Education Course in Malagola: School of Vocality and Center for International Studies on the Voice of Rávena.

Giada Cippollone, Universidade IUAV de Veneza

Assistant Professor (RTD-A) at the Iuav University of Venice. She was a Researcher and Adjunct Professor at the University of Pavia, where she obtained her doctorate in 2019. She is a member of the research teams of the ERC INCOMMON project.
