Abstract

After briefly reviewing the reception of Herodotus's History during the Renaissance, we will examine the Greek author's presence and influence on Michel de Montaigne, attempting to some of the contributions his reading made to the Renaissance thinker. We will focus more specifically on the mention of the Scythian peoples in both authors, which seems to illustrate the role played by the Frenchman's reading of Herodotus.
