Abstract

Abstract: The interdisciplinary approach of One Health recognizes the interdependence between human, plant, animal, and environmental health. In the educational context, the use of this perspective promotes significant awareness about the prevention of diseases, such as parasitic diseases, common in regions with populations in socioeconomic vulnerability. The "LabPar de Portas Abertas" project, linked to the LabPar of ICBS/UFAL, carried out awareness-raising activities for Basic Education students about the importance of parasitic diseases and their impacts on One Health. With dynamic activities, such as lectures and workshops, the project has already served 1,266 students, between March 2023 and November 2024, 35.3% of whom are in Elementary School, 10.1% in High School, and 54.6% in Youth, Adult, and Elderly Education. In addition to transmitting technical knowledge, the action encouraged critical thinking about the socio-environmental factors that favor the endemism of parasitic diseases and brought students closer to the university environment, awakening interest in higher education and reinforcing academic dreams and aspirations.

Débora , Federal University of Alagoas

My name is Débora Camargo de Lira, and I am currently a seventh-semester student in the Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL). Throughout my academic journey, I was a teaching assistant in the discipline of Morphology and Taxonomy of Seed Plants, where I participated and received a certificate of academic excellence at the V Institutional Seminar on Teaching Assistance at UFAL.

Since 2023, I have been a PIBITI scholarship holder at the Integrative Biology Laboratory (LABI), where I began my research with the curation of the Gabriel Skuk Zoological Sound Library. Currently, my work focuses on accessibility for deaf individuals, developing a device capable of translating the sounds from the sound library into tactile vibrations.

In addition to research, I have experience in organizing and teaching short courses. During the 2023 Biology Week, I taught a short course on Non-Conventional Edible Plants (PANCs), and in 2024, I lectured on the bioacoustics of amphibians and the importance of zoological sound libraries in a new short course. I also participated as a speaker in a lecture circuit on Vape vs. Cigarette, addressing the historical context and origins of their use.

During the first SINPETE at the institution, I was a monitor for the Botany (Botanical Universe) and Labpar stands in 2023. In 2024, I participated as a monitor in the room about sambaquis and the ocean, where we discussed the importance of sambaquis and oceanic culture.

I am part of the extension project "Labpar de Portas Abertas," which focuses on promoting knowledge about One Health and parasitic diseases. Currently, I am developing my Undergraduate Thesis (TCC) in the field of Parasitology, investigating the contamination of the elderly population of Maceió by Toxoplasma gondii.
