Abstract

This article presents an experience report on the project “Itinerant Toy Library”, which engaged early childhood education and early years elementary students from the municipalities of Paranaguá and Pontal do Paraná, as well as all undergraduate students enrolled in the Pedagogy program. The activities developed were part of the curricular components, specifically within the scope of the Extension Curricularization policy, as established in the Pedagogy course curriculum. The project aimed to integrate the construction of toys using recyclable materials with environmental education, highlighting the importance of proper waste separation and disposal. In addition to fostering environmental awareness, the initiative sought to provide access to education, play, and leisure opportunities, while simultaneously offering Pedagogy students hands-on experiences to reflect on and implement actions that contribute to improving learning outcomes, particularly in the early years of elementary education. By recognizing play as a fundamental element in childhood development, the project emphasized the core pillars of interaction and play, as outlined in Brazil’s National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) of 2017. Furthermore, the Toy Library at School initiative provided pedagogical workshops for children, continuing education opportunities for municipal school teachers, and events open to the entire school community.
