Abstract

The growing use of social networks has raised concerns about the impact on psychological well-being through the increase in cases of anxiety, low self-esteem and depression, which are also common in the university community. To address emotional and psychological issues through music, promoting reflection and well-being among students, the UPE Extravas@ university extension project was developed. Started in May 2023 at the University of Pernambuco Petrolina Campus, the project involved twelve students from the health and undergraduate areas. In weekly face-to-face meetings, they discussed mental health issues, rehearsed music and produced content for Instagram. In this experience report, the lyrics of three songs were analyzed, which reflect the students' critical vision and sensitivity in dealing with complex issues. 7,405 views were achieved on Instagram, although engagement in likes, comments and shares was low. Despite financial limitations and lower than expected online engagement, UPE Extravas@ produced relevant material and observed among its participants music as a therapeutic and educational tool for promoting mental health, highlighting the importance of integrating artistic expression into psychological support actions in the university environment.
