This article analyzes how contemporary children's play simultaneously expresses elements of traditional knowledge and the creativity of current play culture. The study begins by problematizing the common idea that children no longer play as they did in the past, seeking to understand how play remains present in children's experiences, although expressed in different ways. The empirical object of the study is the documentary Território do Brincar, which records playful practices of children from different regions of Brazil. Methodologically, a film analysis was conducted based on the proposal of Vanoye and Goliot-Lété, consisting of the stages of analytical decomposition and interpretative recomposition. The analysis was organized into four categories: games and play activities, skills, toys, and playful gesture. The results indicate that play articulates elements inherited from cultural traditions with creative processes that emerge from the relationships between children, objects, and environments. It is concluded that contemporary play represents a dynamic continuity of play culture.
